Chapter 161: Completing The Training Room
Chapter 161: Completing The Training Room
The Bunarfs actually managed to gather the materials I needed quite quickly which was quite surprising.
I did ask for things like gold and silver but apparently we already had some on hand so they just prioritised in processing them for me.
There were some other things that were a little more difficult to procure like specific shaped talismans that were made of specific materials but like I had suggested before, Olivia put in a request from the mainland for them and the bunny girls worked on processing them after that.
It only took two days before I was ready to lay down another array in the training room.
In that time, however, I attended a few more meetings which included discussions with the Bunarfs on arranging a new location for their new living quarters.
They were still staying at one of the camp sites on the other island which was supposed to be a temporary measure from the start.
Now they intend to turn that into a full production facility so that means they need to move somewhere else.
I thought they would stay inside the tower itself since there were plenty of space that was still unused but it seems like they intend to use that space for new research and development facilities and to also be used as living space for new Guardians and staff working under me.
Additionally... The Bunarfs actually prefer living underground instead and they have been digging out an underground facility where they can build a living space for themselves.
I saw no problem with that so I didn’t stop them.
The other thing we decided on was the responsibilities of the Guardians.
Under normal circumstances where we have already established ourselves, the Guardians would be rotating themselves out to deal with the various portals that might appear around the world.
But since we were relatively new, we were still working on getting foreign contacts to hire us so we did not really have a lot of work piled up for us yet.
In fact, there’s still a few more local portals that have yet to be closed so we would probably be dealing with those first.
So for now, there’s basically nothing for them to do according to their ’supposed’ work.
Thus, we had to find something to keep them occupied both to avoid having idle hands and having the Guardians fall into boredom, especially since the recreation room was still under construction and the training room was waiting for me to complete the array.
Eventually, we settled on them running security for the island and the rift that the bunny girls were still exploiting.
Obviously that was a role that was far below their standing so that responsibility would eventually be relegated to someone else.
Hopefully, we would also be receiving commissions from other countries to deal with rifts by then so that wouldn’t be an issue.
We also had plans to have them participate in raid groups that were raiding the local rifts to thin out the Anomalies inside them before we would eventually clear them.
There was no need for people to rush to clear a rift since there will always be time before it stabilises and Vanguards could still dive into them to hunt Anomalies and Mana Crystals to get some quick money.
It was less stable of an income when I was a Vanguard since I could not dive into one without a Guardian or a Mortal God participating in the expedition as well or I would have transformed into an Anomaly myself if I did.
Now that our country has our own Mortal God, we could have more frequent expeditions into those rifts and thus, even human Vanguards would be able to have a more stable income from doing this work here without the need to travel to other countries to participate in expeditions.
Once we have formulated an agreement with our government, we would be able to start assigning the Guardians to participate in those expeditions.
It is ironic how it is beneficial for a country to both close their portals quickly and also to take as long as possible to exploit the rift that appeared within their borders.
The people in charge will never admit to this but the people in charge of managing that portal I cleared in Thailand the other day definitely fucked up.
We found out later that it was not someone sabotaging us deliberately but it was a complete fuckup by the people in charge.
The people that were supposed to measure the level of the rift barely made the effort to dive deep into the rift to measure its level and just stayed near the portal instead.
Additionally, the people who were supposed to keep track of the portal’s ’age’ kept procrastinating on submitting their documentation that they ended up reporting the portal as ’younger’ than it really was.
Then the higher ups who were also in charge of overseeing these portals also did not bother to check as well because getting people to enter a portal with a lower danger level would mean that they needed to pay the Vanguards a lower expedition fee as compared to a rift with a higher danger level.
They also prevented the locals from figuring out by telling the expedition members the real danger level but then only paying them a lower fee for the Mana Crystals while pocketing the rest themselves.
Since the officials are the ones who decide how much they are worth and the price fluctuates each time, the expedition members could not be sure if they were being scammed either.
In other words, it was one entire big list of people screwing up and also corruption that almost led to the destruction of an entire city.
Last I heard, everyone involved was being rounded up by the authorities with several of them having been literally charged with treason and executed while the others were still on trial to be potentially locked away for life.
This was a pretty serious matter after all.
Despite that, everything was being handled as silently as possible and none of that even made it to the headline news as everyone else simply thought that it was just an unfortunate event where the rift stabilised sooner than had expected which led to the rift breakout.
Our country also agreed to keep silent on the matter after they agreed to give us priority in hiring us for future rift expeditions in the future.
There were also some other political agreements involved as well but since it didn’t really concern me, I didn’t pay attention to the terms.
For us, we were happy with all the materials that we got from Maylene leading her sisters around the rift to locate places to mine for more resources so we were totally fine with how things turned out in the end.
It felt like a lot happened in just those two days and I believe they would be holding the next round of interviews for the prospective Guardian candidates soon and I intend to participate as well just to see what they were like.
Since they already thought I was one of them anyway, I might as well just take advantage of it.
Putting all that aside... I was now walking through the training room under the gazes of my Guardians and the Bunarfs.
I was in my Mortal God ’disguise’ right now so I had my mask on and my floating arms were also assisting me in setting things up here.
With all these eyes on me, I can’t help but feel a little nervous as I was placing the stuff around the training hall that I might somehow fail in setting it up for some reason.
But right now... I’m just going through the motion of setting things up for the array.
Let’s see... Place this charm here... Then this carving there... And then this piece of gold here... And then I just need to inscribe the array patterns and start filling it with my energy and... There we go.
I watched as the formation array materialised in the air and spun around the air once before it dispersed itself to fill up the entire room with light.
There was a moment where the space around the room distorted like you were looking at it through a kaleidoscope before it suddenly snapped back into focus and the entire room expanded itself to several times its original size, making it bigger than an entire football stadium.
I turned back to nod at Olivia who then stepped into the training hall and took up a knife she had prepared ahead of time to slash it across her arm.
Even as we watched, the wound quickly closed up without even giving her time to bleed, leaving no tract that she had cut herself at all.
Nice.
Seems like I actually managed to create the array without any problems.
"Alright!! Let the first Guardian battle begin!!" Kris shouted.
Oh right... You guys were waiting for that...
